Ideal tips to prepare for Numerical Ability (Quant Aptitude) for IBPS PO 2019

In IBPS PO exam, the section of Quantitative Aptitude is very tough but also very scoring because it involves questions which are based on numerical calculations related to topics like Arithmetic, Percentage Analysis, and Table Reading etc. The topic is given highest priority by IBPS, exam conducting body, as questions from this section are asked in both Prelims and Mains exam. In banking jobs, a deserving PO has to be brilliant in numerical calculations and so this section is designed in such a way that it measures candidate’s numerical ability and accuracy in mathematical calculations.

In this blog, we will give important tips topic-wise to prepare Quantitative Aptitude Section for the forthcoming IBPS PO exam.

§  Simplification/Approximation
While preparing for this topic, the students should thoroughly practice questions based on BODMAS application. If you practice these questions thoroughly then you can easily score well in the exam. You should try to work hard on mental calculation as it will increase your mental agility that will help you solving questions in lesser time with accuracy.

While attempting questions from this topic, the students should be able to recognize the pattern of the series. The students should do regular practice and this will enable them in recognizing the pattern of the series. The questions on this topic are less time-consuming and are usually based on Arithmetic operations or their combinations.

§  Data Interpretation
In last few years, the questions based on Data Interpretation are posing challenges to students. The questions are basically based on Percentage, Average and Ratio. The students should work hard on its concepts and practice some calculative sets of tabular, pie, bar and line based graph based problems. Do try to maintain a good speed in solving these questions as these problems are most time-consuming.

§  Quadratic Equations
§  In this topic, two equations will be given as question and students have to solve the equation to find the relation between them. The questions based on this topic are reasonably easy and are very scoring. The students should do practice of factorization based quadratic questions for the exam.

§  Data Sufficiency Questions
§  In all banking and other competitive exams, the questions based on Data Sufficiency are frequently asked. It tests the understanding of various concepts of Arithmetic topics. The students don’t have to solve the complete question but have to figure out what statements are required to answer the asked question.

§  Miscellaneous Topics
There are other important topics which are to be studied properly and these topics are Problems on Age, Profit and Loss, Time and Distance, Pipes and Cistern, Partnership, Mixtures and Allegation, Boat and Stream, Simple and Compound Interest, Probability, Menstruation, and Permutation and Combinations etc. Like other topics, the students should first try to learn the concepts of these topics properly and then try to apply them in solving them. Do practice these questions regularly to become perfect in it. Since, the questions test the calculative speed and numerical ability of the candidates and so students should work hard on speed on answering and accuracy in answering.
