What are the duties and responsibilities of IBPS RRB Officer?
For the financial year 2019-20, IBPS has released
official notification for the posts of Assistant and Officer Scale jobs. On 4th
July 2019, the registration has ended and IBPS RRB Prelims 2019 is tentatively
scheduled in the month of August 2019. The interested aspirants must be
interested in acquiring knowledge about duties and responsibilities of an ideal
IBPS RRB Officer. To be concise, the job profile of an IBPS RRB Officer can be
described as similar to that of any commercial Bank Probationary Officer. Even,
the recruitment drive for IBPS RRB Officer is similar to that of IBPS PO or SBI
PO exam, but it has its own syllabus and exam pattern.
The students should note that the recruitment drive is
conducted by IBPS and is based on two written competitive exams (IBPS RRB
Officer Prelims 2019 and IBPS RRB Officer Mains 2019 Exams) followed by
interview round. The fundamental duties and responsibilities of an IBPS RRB
Officer are to bring a variety of banking services and activities to the rural
areas of India effectively. Like any Bank PO, he has to perform all bank
activities responsibly and his duties includes handling bank books, maintaining
congenial relationship with customers and colleagues, managing and handling
cash books, issuing passbooks and cheque books etc. Professionally speaking,
his job profile can be considered to be more challenging as well as innovative
than any other commercial bank officer.
During his probation or training period, he is
well-trained to perform multi-tasks and perform generous amount of banking
activities with full obedience and perfection. In other words, it is
fundamentally a Management Trainee Job where new recruits are kept on probation
of 2 years. The successful completion of probation period gives them full-time
bank job where they work like a full-time bank officer. The salary packages are
encouraging as their salaries vary from Rs 29,000 to Rs 33, 000 per month,
depending on their posting. Likewise, the growth prospects are also promising
as they get regular promotions in their career span. Like any other Bank Officer, IBPS RRB Officer
too has to assess bank’s annual balance sheet and report annual reports of the
bank to higher authorities with accurate facts and figures. Besides these
critical jobs, he has to maintain the audit report of the financial year and
has to compare with last year reports.
What
makes the job of IBPS RRB Officer different from any other Commercial Bank
Officer? The basic requirement to become IBPS RRB Officer for a
candidate is to have language proficiency in the state he has applied for. It
implies that the candidate should be proficient in local language as he has to
interact and communicate with local people like farmers, small scale
businessmen etc and so expertise and adeptness in local language is very
important. For example- Besides proficient in Hindi/English, a candidate has to
be proficient in Marathi, if he is posted in Maharashtra. Hence, IBPS prefers
to recruits local candidates for the post of IBPS RRB Officers.
The
most important duty of an IBPS RRB Officer in rural areas is to provide credit
facility to local people in the form of Agricultural Loan, after properly
verifying documents. The main objective of Indian Government to establish RRB
Banks was to abolish “Zamindari System” from India and financially helping
farmer by providing them with Agricultural Loans. The other prominent duty is
to create awareness about Indian banking system and its benefits to local
people, especially poor farmers. The recovery of loan is also a crucial job of
IBPS RRB Officer and so he should always check the credentials of loan-taker
properly.
In
last few years, schemes like “Jan Dhan Accounts” have facilitated banking in
rural areas, results in opening of billions of new bank accounts. The banking
system also got a major boost through the concept of “Cashless Transactions”
where farmers can understand the importance of debit/credit cards. In many rural areas of India, the Indian
Government has encouraged the concept of “Loan Mela”, a festival to promote
banking awareness by explaining out different types of loans and schemes with
its benefits, implemented by Government of India. It is conducted for the
betterment of Indian farmers and IBPS RRB Officer has a major role to play in
it. In a similar way, the Officers should always remain updated with new
Government plans, policies and schemes which are introduced for the up-liftment
of farmers.

job of IBPS RRB Officer is not only multifaceted but also challenging and
